Faraday demonstrates first electric motor - (upseting Davy)
1821 AD invented
Soon after Hans Christian Ørsted discovered the phenomenon of electromagnetism, Humphry Davy and William Hyde Wollaston tried, but failed, to design an electric motor.
Faraday, rising to Davy's challenge (made in jest), goes on to build two devices to produce what he called "electromagnetic rotation". One of these, is now known as the homopolar motor.
When Faraday publishes his results, Davy's jealousy leads him to assign Faraday to other activities, blocking his involvement in electromagnetic research for several years.
