Problems of the. Grounding of Mathematics including Entscheidungsproblem
09/03/1928 AD presented
At the 1928 international congress of mathematicians, Hilbert delivered Probleme der Grundlegung der Mathematik in which reiterated and formalized three of the problems he had posed in 1900:
- First, is mathematics complete? ...
- Second, is mathematics consistent? ...
- Third, is mathematics decidable? see Turing Machine
Attending this lecture may have set Gödel's life course. The problem of completeness that was posed, Are the axioms of a formal system sufficient to derive every statement that is true in all models of the system?, became the topic that Gödel chose for his doctoral work.
