H.P. Blavatsky and the Secret Doctrine
05/16/1962 AD presented

This lecture was one in a five-part series, titled, Landmarks of Esoteric Literature, given in Los Angeles in 1962,.

Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky was a clear favorite of Manly Hall's, as he had a deep respect for her work and realized its importance to the esoteric and metaphysical community. Her Isis Unveiled and Secret Doctrine were both quoted extensively in Mr. Hall's magnum opus, The Secret Teachings of All Ages.

Hall sets the context for H.P. Blavatsky's life and describes how difficult it was for a Western woman to travel in the East, parts of which were nearly inaccessible to even men at the time. She spent time in Asia, India, the Holy Land and the Americas (including studying the First Americans in the Southwestern United States).

The Secret Doctrine, along with Godfrey Higgins earlier Anacalypsis, were the most extensive works on comparative religion and philosophy that were printed in the 1800's.
