Charles the Bald
Charles the Bald

Charles the Bald
823 AD - 877 AD

King of West Francia 840 – 877
Holy Roman Emperor 875 – 877
Bald?
Contemporary depictions show him with a full head of hair (see illustrations): It has been suggested the nickname may be ironical due to his hairiness, or perhaps is a disparaging reference to his lack of land holdings.
