Ashot restored the Armenian monarchy and became the founder of the medieval Kingdom of Armenia, also known as Bagratid Armenia, named after the contemporary rule of the Bagratunis.
The Bagratid kingdom lasted until 1045, when it was annexed into the Byzantine Empire.
