AKA Ibn Sīnā, Abu Ali Sina; ابن سینا
Persian intellectual 11th century who wrote about 450 works on a variety of topics most notably The Book of Healing which is about on science and philosophy. However, he is an important contributor to early modern medicine, having also written a 5 volume Canon of Medicine.
Although he did not believe in transmutation, he was very active in distillation and other chemical reactions.
As to astrology, he believed the other planets affected the Earth, but did not believe in fortune telling.
He is also a poet, and it is said that many of his works are incorrectly attributed to Omar Khayyam.
