The story of Duncan and Rin Tin Tin, the orphaned dog he rescued from a German battlefield during World War I, is told in Susan Orlean's new biography, 'Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend' (Sept. 2011).
A short version of the bio appears in The New Yorker magazine, 8/29/ 11, and is entitled 'Dog Star'.
Duncan gave Rin Tin Tin's puppies to friends that included Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo and cereal company founder W. K. Kellogg.
