Chinese astronomer, mathematician, inventor, mechanical engineer, philosopher, and Buddhist monk of the Tang dynasty (618–907)
Noted for inventing an inovative armillary sphere, the formulation of the Da Yan Calendar and the correction of the distribution of the 24 solar terms based on solar movements.In 724 AD Yi Xing was put in charge of a terrestial-astromomical survey which successfully meassured the length of a protion of the meridian.
