Washington, who was retired, came down with a severe sore throat and had trouble breathing. His doctors attempted the then common practice of bloodletting, and it is believed that they may have let too much!
In an effort to cure him, Washington's doctors are believed to have drained too much blood in the then-common practice of bloodletting, contributing to his death at age 67.
