Trump and Christ marry, and then move to New York City. Trump's mother disapproved of Christ because she considered her family to be of a lower social class.
Trump had returned to Kallstadt in 1901 as a wealthy man. Biographer Blair said that "the business of seeing to his customers' need for food, drink and female companionship had been good to him."
He quickly met and proposed to Elisabeth Christ (1880–1966), the daughter of a former neighbor; she was eleven years younger than Trump.
