01/29/1936 AD elected
The Baseball Writers’ Association of America chose the five greatest superstars of the game as the first class to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in preparation for the hall's dedication in 1939—thought by many to be the centennial of baseball.
Cobb received the most votes of any player on the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame ballot, receiving 222 out of a possible 226 votes (98.2%); no other player received a higher percentage of votes until Tom Seaver in 1992.
