48 BC met

Julius Caesar arrived in Alexandria while Cleopatra was feuding with brother Ptolemy XIII.
In order to thwart Ptolemy’s attempts to prevent the two from meeting, Cleopatra had herself wrapped in a carpet—or perhaps a linen sack—and smuggled into his personal quarters. Caesar was smitten, and the two soon became lovers and political allies.
