First abolitionist newspaper: North Star

After returning to the US, using £500 (equivalent to $46,030 in 2019) given him by English supporters, Douglass started publishing his first abolitionist newspaper, the North Star, from the basement of the Memorial AME Zion Church in Rochester, New York.
Originally, Pittsburgh journalist Martin Delany was co-editor but Douglass didn't feel he brought in enough subscriptions, and they parted ways.
The North Star's motto was "Right is of no Sex – Truth is of no Color – God is the Father of us all, and we are all brethren."
