But the pope was then embroiled in a conflict with the Roman aristocracy.
After the capture of Charles and Arnulf, Hugh resorts to a domestic tribunal, where, Gerbert testifies against Arnulf, leading to the archbishop's deposition and Gerbert being chosen as replacement.
