Gerard Translates Almagest for the West

Gerard Translates Almagest for the West
1175 AD translated

Working at Toledo, Gerard produced a Latin version from the Arabic translation. This was very influential in Europe where the book had been effectively lost for centuries.
He introduced an error arising from using the Moorish meaning for letter "sin" rather than the Eastern Arabic meaning of 60. Thus several stars were listed as 300° for the latitude when the correct value was 60°. He also was unable to translate some other technical terms.
