After arriving in Spain in July, Elisabeth Christine marries Charles in the church of Santa María del Mar.
At the time of the wedding, Charles was fighting for his claim to the Spanish throne against the French candidate, Philip V King of Spain, so he was living in Barcelona.
As Philip had already fathered a son, Elisabeth Christine was immediately pressured to produce a son.
