Raleigh Siezes Trinidad

Raleigh with a hundred soldiers seized the small stockade at Puerto de España Port of Spain), then pushed on to San José de Oruña, the principle Spanish settlement in Trinidad.
Spanish Governor de Berrio surrendered in return for Raleigh's assurance that the settlement would be spared.
Raleigh fortified the place and used it as a base from which he explored of the Orinoco river in search of El Dorado.
Raleigh achieved his objective of debriefing de Berrio regarding the latter's earlier quests for El Dorado.
Raleigh also released five native chiefs whom Berrio had tortured, chained and left to die: They accepted Raleigh as an ally against the Spanish.
