Kepler's Platonic Model of the Universe
1596 AD published
Kepler believes he has discovered the "God Geometry" of the universe and publishes his findings in Mysterium Cosmographicum. It is the first published defense of the Copernican system.
Assuming the planets orbit the sun, Kepler realized that the Platonic solids could be nested inside of one another by circumscribing and inscribing each resulting in six orbs corresponding to the known planets -- at intervals proportional to their orbits.
This led him to believe that he may have uncovered the God Geometry of the universe and convinced him of the correctness of the Copernican system
