Ivan V & Peter I, Co-Tsars of Russia
05/07/1682 AD inherited
When Feodor died he not leave any children, and a dispute arose over who should inherit the throne.
Peter's other half-brother, Ivan V of Russia, was next in line for the throne, but he was chronically ill and of infirm mind.
Consequently, the Boyar Duma (a council of Russian nobles) chose the 10-year-old Peter to become Tsar with his mother as regent.
The streltsy demanded that Ivan be named tsar, and a compromise was found by declaring Ivan and Peter as co-rulers, with a regency government until the boys came of age. Sofia Alekseyevna, who had been influential at court during her brother Feodor's reign, was named regent.
