On a boat trip up the Isis, with the 3 daughters of Oxford University Vice-Chancellor Henry Liddell, Lorina, Edith, and Alice, Carroll tells the story of a bored girl named Alice who goes looking for adventure.
He began writing the manuscript of the story the next day.
