Civil war begins in Scotland as 26 Protestant Lords — known as the "confederate lords" — challenge Mary's rule (with help from England).
Mary was captured after the battle and imprisoned in Lochleven Castle.
This marked the end of her personal power in Scotland. The victory of the Protestant Lords was achieved with direct help from England.
