- Lothair I is proclaimed co-emperor and overlord of his brothers. He receives Burgundy, including German and Gallic parts.
- Pepin I of Aquitaine is proclaimed king of Aquitaine: He receives Gascony;
- Louis the German is proclaimed king of Bavaria, and receives East Francia.
