633 AD built
Seondeok’s most famous achievement comes as she ordered this astronomical observatory to be built.
Cheomseongdae (첨성대) means “star gazing tower”. It built with 365 pieces of granite, one for each day of the year, with 27 brick courses to signify her rule as the twenty-seventh monarch.
She oversaw a renaissance in science, literature, and the arts, and encouraged the rise of Buddhism as Silla’s state religion by sponsoring the construction of numerous Buddhist temples.
