Smith's First Vision
03/1820 AD prophesized
Fifteen year old Smith entered the woods to pray - either to ask which religion to follow or to atone for his sins - later saying, the vision occurred "early in the spring of 1820" after an "unusual excitement on the subject of religion"
There are several somewhat contradictory accounts of the vision, the first being handwritten by Smith in 1832, followed by one dictated to a stranger in 1835. In 1838, Smith began dictating the early history of the church including what would come to be known as the "canonized version."
In any case, he essentially saw God the father and Jesus who told him not to follow any established relion, because they were all flawed, but rather to form his own religion.
